Event 6 – MOPA- New Realities

As i was on my way to the exhibit i was curious what the show was about. I had not looked into it like i sometimes do. However as i got there and started to see the works, i was stuck in the meaning of the pictures. I really enjoy this kind of work. my first reaction was incredible images, yet photoshop was i help. Then i read that the images were done by a couple Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor who work side by side using different techniques. Jerry an expert in dark room works there, no photoshop and mostly black and white.
his wife Maggie uses photoshop to create a sort of alter dimension where anythings can happen or so was my reaction to their work.

My favorite piece that i ran into was this one,

I lost the name of it nothing a little web search cant find. The reason this was so catchy for me was because it got me thinking about Iztaccihuatl and Popocatépetl.
Ever since I was a kid I was told the story about Iztaccihuatl and Popocatépetl.
Were the condense story is that the king Tlaxcala was leading his army to fight the Aztecs.
The young warrior Popocatépetl ask the king that if he lead them to victory if he could have his daughter in marriage since both were madly in love. King accepts. So as he fights the battles, an enemy tells the princess that Popocatépetl was killed. The princess being devastated dies out of sadness. When Popocatépetl finds out of Iztaccihuatl death. Money and honor meant nothing to him, so he gets slaves to build a large tomb for the princess body and one for him out of 10 mountains. Once the mountains were built, he lights himself and the princess body on fire so that they can live forever together.
